Kristiina Hirvonen was born in 1982 in the city of Hyvinkää in Southern Finland. She started her music studies playing piano when she was five years old and continued with cello at the age of seven. She has a bachelor’s degree in cello pedagogy and a masters degree in performance from Sibelius-Academy, where she studied with Timo Hanhinen graduating in 2014 with honors. She has also taken part in many international masterclasses with prestigious teachers like Ralph Kirschbaum, Raphael Wallfisch and Maria Kliegel. She holds a permanent teaching position at the music school in Järvenpää and for the year 2015-16 was also invited to teach a full class at the conservatory in Pori. She gives regular recitals with her pianist and takes part in various chamber music and orchestral projects. She is also very interested in improvisation and learning about different music cultures.
